Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What does an Investment Advisor do?
An Investment Advisor generally provides discretionary investment management services consistent with a client’s goals and objectives for a designated portfolio. A qualified Investment Advisor adds value in a number of areas:
- Helping the client identify life goals (e.g. wealth accumulation, education, retirement, estate planning)
- Projecting the cash requirements to achieve those goals
- Analyzing the available assets from which to meet the cash flow requirements
- Determining the client’s investment risk tolerance
- Selecting an asset allocation strategy that best matches the client’s goals with the funds available for investment and the client’s risk tolerance, liquidity needs and tax situation
- Achieving investment goals while minimizing taxes on capital gains and income
- Structuring and executing an investment plan to help achieve those goals

I want to be sure my personal information is kept confidential. What protection does your Privacy Policy afford?
We share your concern. It is against federal and state laws for any employee to disclose information about your account with anyone outside the firm unless such disclosure is authorized by you. Our Privacy Policy has been established to conform with all applicable federal and state laws.
How do you charge for your services?
Investment management is a under fee-only cost structure where a percentage is assessed on your average account balance each year. As your assets accumulate, the percentage is lowered. Strategic Life Planning is available as a group workshop, individually and as ongoing support. The prices depend upon which option, or combination of options, you choose.
Why would I use IIA versus a large national firm?
We are an independent SEC registered investment advisory firm. What does that mean? We put our clients’ interest first because we are not constrained to sell specific investments or meet quotas. For example, we have the flexibility to invest in multiple fund families without the client incurring additional fees. In addition, we go beyond money management, assisting you with all aspects of your financial strategy such as working with your CPA on tax strategies, estate attorney on your financial legacy or business valuation experts for the exit plan from your business.
Will you come to my home or business for appointments?
We’re flexible to meet your needs although we are conscious of our own time and commitment to serve all our clients. If a “house call” is appropriate for the situation, we’d be happy to do so.
